Zoo's Ferret Sanctuary
ChooChoo, Razor, & Yoda

These three precious babies came in together from an abusive home in the Spring of 2000.

ChooChoo walks off balance because she has some permanent brain damage, and she gets supplemental feedings because she can't chew well - her old owner had broken her jaw at some point in time.  She is very old.  She is now completely blind and has had a bilateral adrenal removal and pancreas surgery.  Yoda is between three & four years old. He has also had surgery...he went through an adrenal surgery last year. Razor is also between three & four, & is in good health.

UPDATE:
We regret to announce that our beloved ChooChoo has now crossed the Rainbow Bridge.  ChooChoo had been through so much in this lifetime, but she had a burning desire to live.  Unfortunately her health and age wouldn't allow her to remain forever, and we lost her on January 26th, 2003...

UPDATE: Razor started showing signs of adrenal gland disease, early in 2003. On May 29th she received a lupron injection. We are posting before & after pictures, so you can see her progress.

Update: December 19th, 2004

The flu has hit our room. Our elderly residents & the ones with health problems are among the hardest-hit. We lost Razor today. She bounced up & down with supportive care, but she had lots of issues. The lupron had the adrenal symptoms under control. The flu  (and not eating as much as usual) caused Razor`s insulinoma to go nuts. She seized three times in two days, even with supportive care & three hour feedings. Her body couldn`t shake this awful flu. Razor was about seven years old. She got along with absolutely everyone, and was very good about her habits. I am so heavy-hearted. She will really be missed.

Yoda, March 2005

Update:March 2005

Yoda is still with us. He had adrenal surgery, a little over three years ago, and the disease returned in the other gland, about a year later. Yoda is on lupron.

He has had a growth on his nose for over a year. It doesn`t seem to bother him.The vet said it would be best to leave this one alone, so we have.

Yoda has nodules in his armpits, neck, & groin area. The vet has him on a very low dose of prednisolone to slow the progression of the lymphoma. His appetite is good, & he plays well for an eight year old.

More later!

UPDATE: April 5th, 2005

My friend invited me out to lunch, this afternoon. She thought it would be good for me to get away from the sanctuary for a while. I tidyed up the room, checked & filled food/water dishes, & left the house at 11:00.

When I got back at 1:45, Yoda was dead in his cuddle cup.Yoda has been a member of our family for many years now. He had adrenal surgery about 3 1/2 years ago, & it came back, in the other gland. He had lymphoma. Nodules in the armpits, groin, & neck.
We had him on a low dose of pred to slow the progression of the disease. He was old... I knew this day would come. I`m just so sorry I wasn`t here for him, when it did...
