Dolores Emma`s first day in the room |
On September 30, 2005, Gretchen from T.A.I.L.S. (Taking Animals Into Loving Shelter) brought an old. balding girl to
us. The ferret was very sweet, but obviously didn`t have much time. T.A.I.L.S. wanted to be sure that her final days would
be joyful, comfortable, and as quality-filled as possible. The ferret had no name, but Gretchen was calling her "Sweetie Pie",
just because she was so sweet.
Gretchen had been here before. We talked a bit about ferrets, & she got out a pen & paper & began to take
some notes as I talked. (Gretchen is a cat person, but wanted to learn as much as possible about ferrets & their care.)
I showed her how to identify sex & estimate age. We discussed diet a bit, and some common medical issues often seen in
the ferret. We had a wonderful visit!
T.A.I.L.S. has called us now, & we will be helping to educate their staff on ferret care & behavior. I will be
showing everyone how beautifully Dolores Emma Sweetie Pie has responded to the lupron shot we gave her--and the T.L.C.
Although she is about 8 years old, she is feeling great, has gone into remission---and her future is looking pretty bright.
We are so glad she has joined us!
Love, Zoo
PS--We named this ferret after the now deceased mother of our friend Diane Iverson---but we allowed the "Sweetie Pie"
to remain----because she truly is one......

Dolores Emma Sweetie Pie, one month after lupron shot |
UPDATE: November 12th 2006
Dolores Emma Sweetie Pie got another lupron shot last month (Thank you, SOS--We are so grateful!!!! She was yet another
of the 15 you helped. ) Her fur filled in MASSIVELY, after the above picture was taken, last year, and continues to be
thick & lush. I wish we hadn`t run out of disk space on this site---you just wouldn`t believe how beautiful she looks.
Pretty good for an approximate age of nine!
She has senior moments now--forgetting where her litter box is. This necessitates her bedding being changed several times
a day, and her cage being cleaned quite often--but we are so glad she feels well! The lupron is continuing to do its job.
She runs the room at full speed, and plays like a kit!!! It`s amazing.
Because she is an only (does not play well with others) Her playtime is very early morning, and very late night. In this
way, her human (usually me!) can give her the undivided attention she needs. During these hours, the phone is quiet, &
no one is coming to the door to distract us!
Dolores Emma Sweetie Pie continues to thrive!
More later.
