Yetta is our first Jewish ferret! Here`s her story.....
We got a call from a man in Elgin, Illinois on Sept. 5th. A ferret had walked up to him in the park.
Something was terribly wrong with her eyes, and her neck was full of hard lumps.....He took her to the vet, where she was
diagnosed with lymphoma, and a brain tumor behind the eyes.... He didn`t feel he was the one to keep her---but he wanted to
be certain he found her a good loving home, where she could live out the rest of her days....After putting an ad in the
paper, and having two people come & turn her down, he was referred to us, by the GCFA & Mary Van Dahm.
He came to see the sanctuary, and was very comfortable, leaving her here with us. He had been concerned that
someone might take her, and then just have her put her to sleep. That would be a shame right now, as she is happy eating,
drinking, dooking & playing. She doesn`t even seem to know that she`s sick!!! Right now, she`s a
perfectly normal ferret in every way---(except that she`s not especially pretty....) We will have to take it one day at a
time, with hospice care, and lots of love.
The man left us a generous donation, and wants to come back to visit.
Yetta is a very sweet girl. She gives wonderful kisses, plays well, and is very good about her box.
We don`t know how long she has---but when Yetta goes, her memorial marker will bear a Star of David, to honor the kind
man who brought her here.

UPDATE:
On May 20th 2004, Yetta got her Star of David.
We had over eight wonderful months together. She was active & playful, until the last couple days--Then,
it was as if she knew it was time...
Gordon, the kind man who brought her to us, attended her visitation with his sweet & well-behaved poodle, Amy. A
couple of our closest volunteers came too. Everybody loved Yetta. I will miss her optimistic attitude. She was so happy,
just to be alive.
People have told me how lucky Yetta was to have us---and I have told them that WE were the lucky ones.....
