Zoo's Ferret Sanctuary
Becky

On August 23rd, 2002, Cathy got a call from her friend Melissa (Buddy's Mom).   A while back, Melissa had given a local pet store her home telephone number, and they had just called her.  Apparently, some person dropped off her adrenal ferret at the pet store, saying, "It's sick and I don't want it, anymore".   She handed this four year old adrenal-positive girl AND her four year old cagemate over, not even telling their names, or what they ate...so very similar to Trisha and Fawna Rae's story.

Someone came in, right away, and adopted the boy...her lifelong companion...and left the sick little girl behind, all alone, just because she was balding.  The lady at the store was offering her to Melissa, who really couldn't take her at this time.  No one else was going to, either, because of her illness.  Melissa called Cathy to see if she was willing to take on another ferret in need.  What do YOU suppose she did??????  Adopted her, of course!  Cathy has now named her 'Becky', after the lady at the pet store.   She's very sweet, and has now found her forever home with Cathy and lots of new friends at the Sanctuary!

Update--September 12, 2003
Becky got a lupron shot on May 29, 2003. Her fur has grown back beautifully, and she shows no signs of the disease at this time!

UPDATE: March 29, 2004
Becky was showing quite a bit of pain yesterday, when she tried to use her litterbox. We wound up at the emergency vet, and after an Xray & an ultrasound, it was determined that she had a severe bladder infection. Antibiotics were prescribed, & we were sent home. It was a terrible night. Poor Becky was back at the vet, the minute they opened, this morning. She went in for exploratory surgery. Why the Xray & ultrasound showed nothing, I`ll never know. The surgeon found a huge primary tumor on the liver--and pancreatitis (which accounted for her pain) Becky was not allowed to wake up. I feel horrible to have put her through all that pain last night---and now we owe Mastercard $649. for a ferret who we tried to save, but couldn`t. Not good. I`m so sorry, Becky....
