The humane society and animal control here do not keep ferrets, and do not know how to care for them.
In March of 2003, someone connected with the humane society called the vet to ask what to do with a little ferret
she had found in her garage, drinking out of the feral cats` water dish. He directed her to us. We were to keep the ferret
out of harm`s way, while they tried to track down the owner. We live near a college town, and ferrets are frequently dumped. There
were notices put in the paper, etc---but no one ever called. (A familiar story....) In the meantime, the little boy began
to trust. (We believe he had been dropped) He got out of quarantine in three weeks, and became a part of the Sweet group.
We affectionately began to call him "Stretch", because if you held him away from your body, he would stretch out all his legs
& toes.
Stretch is now well-adjusted, loves his group, and will never be abandoned again.
UPDATE: September 26, 2006
Stretch has an inoperable tumor in his tummy. It`s a slow-grower--he still feels fine---but it`s pretty involved...
He likes to sleep by himself, but he plays well with Sox & Buelah.
More later.
